You've Been the Strong One for So Long, You Forgot You're Allowed to Be Tired Too

Somewhere along the way, you became the person people call when something goes wrong. The one who sends money home without being asked twice. The one who handles it, whatever it is, because that is simply what you do. People trust you with their problems because you have never given them a reason not to. You show up. You always have.
No one ever asks how you're managing to carry all of it. Somewhere along the way, that question stopped getting asked of you, maybe because you answered "I'm fine" enough times that everyone simply believed it.
The Cost of Being Reliable
Being the strong one is not without a cost, even if it rarely gets acknowledged, even by you. It means your own tiredness gets quietly deprioritized, because someone else always seems to need something first. It means a headache gets pushed through rather than tended to, because there is a call to make, a transfer to send, a problem back home that needs solving from thousands of kilometers away. It means the version of care you give so easily to everyone else rarely makes its way back to you.
This is not martyrdom, and it is not really a complaint either. It is simply what happens when you are good at carrying things. People notice you can carry them, and so they keep handing them to you, and you keep taking them, because that is who you have decided to be. But being able to carry something is not the same as it being light.
You Are Allowed to Need Care Too
Here is what tends to get lost in all of this: being the strong one does not mean you stopped needing anything for yourself. It just means you got very good at not asking. The people who depend on you are not asking you to disappear into your own exhaustion for their sake. Most of them would want you to be okay, genuinely, if they ever thought to ask, or if you ever let them see the parts you usually keep to yourself.
You do not need to stop being reliable. You do not need to lower the bar you have set for yourself. You just need to remember that being the one who takes care of everyone else does not disqualify you from also being someone who deserves care, even if that care has to come from you.
A Small Way to Give Some of That Back to Yourself
You do not need to announce it, explain it, or justify it to anyone. Fifteen minutes at the end of a long day where the calls have stopped and the responsibilities are quiet, warmth around tired eyes, real pressure worked into a neck that has been carrying more than its share, is not selfish. It is not taking away from anyone who depends on you. If anything, it is what lets you keep showing up for them the way you always have, instead of quietly running on empty until you cannot anymore.
The people who lean on you need you well, not just present. Taking care of yourself is not a betrayal of that. It is part of how you keep being able to do it.
